Chengdu has a long history, with the reputation of “Jiangnan in Sichuan” and “Suzhou-Hangzhou of Sichuan”. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdomsperiod, Emperor Meng Chang of the the Late Shu Dynasty preferred hibiscus flowers, and ordered the people to plant hibiscus trees on the city walls. During the blooming season, Chengdu was as beautiful as brocade for 40 miles.Therefore,Chengdu was also known as the Hibiscus City, or “Rong Cheng”for short.

Chengdu has typical basin climate characteristics, with early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter. The annual average temperature is 16°C. The climate of Chengdu has two distinctive features: it is cloudy and foggy with short sunshine time, and the air is humid.
