        Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province. It is located in the Middle-Lower Yangtze River Plain in Eastern China. It is close to Yangtze River and the sea. The Qinhuai River, Xuanwu Lake, Mochou Lake and other waters are intertwined. The Qinhuai River, which has the reputation of “China’s first historical and cultural river”, crosses the city and is the “mother river” in the hearts of Nanjing people.

        Nanjing’s landforms are mainly low-lying hills, with numerous hills, surrounded by low winding mountains and waters. Nanjing enjoys a distinguished geographical position, the Zhongshan Mountain in the east of the city is like a coiled long dragon,the Shitou Mountain in the west is like a magnificent fierce tiger. Nanjing is called “gateway to the South and the Eas, throat between the north and the south”.

        Nanjing has a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, warm and comfortable. The annual average temperature is 15.3 °C. The rainfall is abundant and the vegetation is lush. Nanjing enjoys the reputation of “Green City”.

        Nanjing was called Jinling in ancient times. It has a long history of more than 6,000 years of civilization. Nanjing has been built for nearly 2,600 years,with nearly 500 years as a capita. Nanjing is also known as “the four ancient capitals of China” along with Beijing, Xi’an and Luoyang. Since Sun Quan of East Wu State moved his capital to Nanjing during the Three Kingdoms in 229, there have been 10 dynasties establishing their capitals here, including Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Southern Dynasties (namely, the Song Dynasty, the Qi Dynasty, the Liang Dynasty and the Chen Dynasty), the Southern Tang Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Republic of China , so Nanjing is called the “the Metropolitanof Ten Empires”. Since the six regimes of Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin,Song, Qi, liang, Chen built their capitals in Nanjing, the historians also called it “the ancient capital of Six Dynasties”.

         As a historical and cultural city worthy of the name, Nanjing has a deep cultural heritage and rich historical relics. It can be said to be a place that  brings together ancient and modern culture. There are countless places of interest, dotted with natural landscapes and human heritages.  “the city in the garden” is the most appropriate description of Nanjing. The area around Xuanwu Lake, the Qinhuai River coast and the Confucius Temple area are the three most concentrated places. The Zhongshan Scenic Area in the eastern suburbs and the Yan Zi Ji in the north win by mountain ridgs and river views respectively.
