The Tiananmen Square is located on the central axis of Beijing City,it starts from the National Museum in the east and ends at the People’s Great Hall in the west, south to Zhengyang Gate, north to Tiananmen Gate, it is 500 meters wide from east to west and 880 meters long from south to north, the Tiananmen Square covers an area of 440,000 square meters, it is the world’s largest city Square, and it can accommodate 1 million people to hold a grand rally.

Tiananmen Gate is located in the north side of the square, it was built in 15th year of the Yongle of Ming Dynasty(1417), formerly known as Gate of Bearing Heavens, with five arch gateways and a large wooden gate tower with 10 columns and nine bays，stands 33.7 meters high. On the beautifully carved white marble base of more than 2000 square meters, is red and white pier more than 10 meters high, on the pier is magnificent Tiananmen Gate Tower.

Under the tower is the sparkling Golden Water River,there are five beautifully carved white marble Golden Water Bridge over the river. Two pairs of mighty stone lions and graceful ornamental columns ( Huabiao) stands before the tower.
Tiananmen Square records the dauntless heroism and indomitable revolutionary spirit of the Chinese people. The May 4th Movement and the the December 9th Movement both took place here, and are thick and heavy in colors. On October 1st, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong solemnly declared the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on the Tiananmen Gate Tower. Since then, as a symbol of New China, its solemn image has become an important part of the national emblem.

The Monument of the People’s Heroes was built in the center Tiananmen Square, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is on the south side. The Tiananmen Square was rated as one of “the Beijing’s sixteen scenery” in 1986, named “TianAn Sunshine.”
