Wangfujing Street has a history of several hundreds years, enjoys the reputation of “Golden Street” , its south end is close to Chang’an Avenue, because there is a sweet-water well on the street, it was named Wangfujing Street.

The earliest commercial activities of Wangfujing Street began in the Ming Dynasty, in 29th year of QianLong in the Qing dynasty (1903), the Dongan market was established , and later, with the formation of the DongJiaoMinXiang embassy district, some banks and firms for foreigners were settled here. In the early 20th century, Wangfujing Street was among the four major commercial areas in Beijing.
